Early Times Report

BILLAWAR, Aug 23: "Save Constitution, Save Rights" Conference was held at Gurah Kalyal in Billawar which was organised by the Tehsil Billawar Unit of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations.
State President of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations, RK Kalsotra was the Chief guest on the occasion and he was accompanied by District Kathua Finance Secretary, Dev Soni. Kalsotra congratulated and garlanded the newly framed body of the Tehsil Billawar Unit of Confederation in which Rattan Chand was elected as President, Tara Chand Verma and Shori Lal as Vice-presidents, Pawan Kumar as General Secretary, Ravi Kumar as Secretary and Dr. Saroop Chand as Legal Advisor.
Krishna Devi was also nominated as President of the Women Wing of Billawar Unit of Confederation.
He questioned the gathering about the future of SC/ST/OBC's and minorities in case the Constitution gets amended with the provision of Social Justice deleted from it and warned them of dire consequences if this thing becomes reality. He told that some vested interested section of society are trying hard to amend the constitution according to their will so that the provision of social justice enshrined in the constitution doesn't get implemented, thus violating the basic structure of the constitution. "The constitution of India framed by Baba Sahib Ambedkar ensures Right to Equality, Right to Freedom of Religion, Right to Education, Abolition of Untouchability and many other social rights for the upliftment of the downtrodden classes."
Kalsotra further stated that although some progress has been made in the direction of upliftment of depressed classes but still a lot needs to be done but some sections of the society who have remained the ruling class over the years are against these constitutional rights and they are hell bent to change the structure of constitution and these elements are creating differences in the society on the name of Food, dress code and are also indulged in caste atrocities.
Kalsotra further remarked that it has also been heard from some sections of ruling party that the constitution would be altered soon either by abolishing reservation system or by any other means. He warned the people to remain united and vigilant against such anti-social elements and urged upon them to support the confederation in this regard as the Confederation has been a pioneer organisation which has been fighting relentlessly since 1997 for the protection of constitutional rights and upliftment of downtrodden and depressed classes along with the minorities.
Rattan Chand in his address assured that he along with his team would work hard to accelerate the agenda of Confederation in Tehsil Billawar. Others who spoke on the occasion were Shiv Dass, Dr. Saroop Chand, Capt. Tara Chand, Parmanand, Mahatma Nihal Chand ,Ravi Kumar, Raman Kumar and others.
