Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 24: Despite ban on private practices by the Heads of Departments (HoDs) of Government medical Colleges in the interest of the patient care, some of HoDs of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) Jammu continue to violate the order without inviting any reprimand.
Moreover, the Health and Medical Education department has succumbed to political pressure and failed to enforce the ban.
The officials told Early Times that various committees had been set up in the past for banning of the private practice of doctors but their recommendations have not been implemented so far. It appears that the framing of committees has just turned a formality without anything being done on the ground. "Either, the agencies are in deep slumber or they are hand in glove with the erring doctors and trying their level best to shield them by not reporting the fact that despite the ban, "officials alleged.
Officials further claimed that a random visit to the clinics of the HoDs of the IGGDC Jammu clearly exposes how the violation of the government's order is being done on the ground and how HOD's are indulged in private practice without interruption. In a few cases, HOD's are working in their private clinics under different names to escape the action and continue to treat patients at his/ her private clinic in the Jammu city as well as outskirts.
Officials added that the private practice stands banned for all HoDs by the government and given nonpracticing allowances. Even, the doctors had given it in sworn affidavits at the time of joining the hospital that they obey the rules.
