Locals protest over dilapidated condition of Chatha-Khandwal Road

Jammu, August 25 Aggrieved over worst condition of Chatha to Khandwal road, locals of Chatha today held a protest demonstration against R&B Department near Chatha minibus stand.
The protesting people led by Sarpanch Chatha Gurmeet Kour raised slogans against the R&B authorities and demanded immediate black topping of the road, which is inviting mishaps due to worst condition and big potholes.
While speaking on the occasion she said that the condition becomes worst in the rainy days as the entire road becomes slippery because of mud filled potholes throughout the stretch.
Protestors alleged that the road is in dilapidated condition but despite several requests, neither the concerned department nor the local MLA has bothered to address the problem.
Locals, while accusing the authorities of being insensitive towards the people living in Chatha and adjoining area, said that thousands of inhabitants of Chatha area are suffering due to non-maintenance and repair of Chatha road since long.
The worsened condition of this road can be gauged from the fact that its black topping has not been done for the last more than 12 years, they said and held PWD responsible for the same.
"The inhabitants of area are aghast over the alleged step-motherly treatment by the concerned authorities as despite running from pillar to post since the last many years, they did nothing except giving assurances to repair the around 3 km stretch of road from Chatha to Khandwal, thereby endangering the life of hundreds of villagers who have no other option but to travel on this only road link of the area", said Sarpanch Gurmeet Kour.
Gurmeet said, "Chatha road is in a dilapidated condition since many years, due to which we have to face various difficulties everyday. There are potholes everywhere.
We requested the authorities many times but nothing has been done to repair the damaged stretch of the road".
After getting the information in-charge SP South-Vinay Sharma reached the spot and pacified the protestors meanwhile the Superintendent Engineer of PWD telephonically talked to the Sarpach through AEE of the department and assured the protestors that their genuine demand would be addressed within days after which the protestors were pacified.
