Cement industries flouting pollution norms in Kathua, PCB unmoved
8/25/2018 11:02:23 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 25: Three cement industries established opposite to Goodown of Food Corporation of India at Railway Road Kathua have openly flouting the set pollution norms, the law enforcement agency (Poolution Control Board), Kathua has failed to take action against them.
Locals alleges that however, the DIC has not granted permission to them to run these industries round the clock but due to active involvement of district level officials with the owners of the plants, they are operating day and night and emanating dust, smoke and even also generate noise pollution which create problems for locals and daily commuters who visits Railway Station Kathua for boarding and deboarding the trains.
Tarsem Lal, a local of Govindsar informed Early Times that in month of June of last year, he was drive his scooter and moved toward Kathua when he was passing from these industries which established near FCI Goodown, suddenly emanating mist and dust clouds and smoke from industries had engulfed me and some dust particles entered in my eyes resulting they injuried my eyes badly.
" Everyday when the units are running and the dust emanating from them, badly damaged the eyes of daily commuters but nobody in department seems bothered to take action against the violators", said another locals.
The locals repeatedly knocked the door of PCB Kathua and even staged protest against the violators but the officials never take action against them seriously, resulting of which, these units are operating illegally and having no permission for running round the clock.
The callousness of the department concerned can be gauged from this fact that however, the Central Pollution Control Board has advised the all the cement units to install online monitoring system to check the level of pollution but only these units have operating without the new system which shows that it cannot be possible with the involvement of officials of district administration.
