Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 25: The Machail base camp has no adequate public toilet facility and the lone toilet complex, which has been constructed by Rural Development Department at base camp remains locked. Despite the fact that the number of pilgrims at Maichail Yatra has crossed 2.30 lakh mark but the district administration has miserably failed to provide the pilgrims even the basic facility of toilet at base camp.
The pilgrims alleged that the facilities at Machial Yatra base camp at Gulabgarh in district Kishtwar are inadequate.
The people are compelled to go in open to relieve themselves. The stadium at base camp has been turned into paid parking zone at Rs 30, which has made the look of the stadium totally shabby.
"The lone public toilet complex which was constructed by Rural Development Department remain locked and the toilet is controlled by Sarv Shakti Sansthan Trust. Surprisingly the JK Police has set up tent near the toilet, when pilgrims enquired them about locked toilet, police personnel admitted that there is no bathroom facility and they are also compelled to go in open for toilet," they alleged further adding that even there is no hotel facility for pilgrims and they had to stay in private residence of local people lieu of payment but more shocking thing which came to fore that the even these houses where have no toilet facility putting pilgrims in huge difficulties.
There is no proper disposal system of garbage generated at base camp. With the establishment of langer, huge garbage of disposal plates, glass remain unattended presenting filthy look of the area. No dustbin has been put in place in the area thereby garbage remained scattered. The other arrangements for pilgrims are also in total disarray, the ticket counters for helipad service has been set up in a shed of the bus stand, they said further adding that even the power supply system in the area is also very poor as the power come at 7 pm to 7 am no light during.
