Single teacher running Govt high school

Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 26: Khawas Education Zone in Rajouri district is facing acute shortage of teachers reportedly due to wrong policies of the department, political interference and attitude of the senior officers.
In the month of June, CEO Rajouri had released a list and many teachers were posted in hard zones including Khawas Education zone to run the schools smoothly and also brought back the teachers who had been serving in the hard zones since a long time.
On one hand department claimed to have provided teachers even in the far off areas while on the other hand on July 18, Director School Education (DSE) has put on hold the CEO Rajouri's order of transfers/adjustments of teachers in hard zone/areas and directed the Joint Director Rajouri/Poonch range to verify the genuineness of the order.
The Director's decision to hold the order has invited wide criticism from the section of teachers and society as those transferred to hard zones never joined and over stayed teachers joined at their new places of posting and many schools were left without teachers or with single teachers.
Between clashes of seniority among the senior officers of the Education department poor children studying in the schools in remote areas are the worst sufferers.
A senior officer in Khawas zone said many middle schools in Khawas zone are being run by single teachers.
Another glaring example of mismanagement in the education department is that a high school at Sadda in Khawas education zone having enrolment of 165 students is without headmaster and is being run by a single teacher.
Ch Abdul Rashid, ZEO, Kotranka informed that out of sanctioned 60 posts of teachers 29 are vacant while 32 posts of Masters are still vacant in this zone despite 24 posts are vacant under SSA.
"In the absence of adequate teachers, we are facing many problems in running the schools smoothly in this zone. The matter was raised several times. The condition further deteriorated when the teachers transferred to hard zones didn't join their duties and teachers transferred from this zone immediately joined at their places of new postings" said ZEO.
He added after people's resentment to Cluster Resource Persons (CRP) have been sent to high school Sadda to run the school.
He added now the department has advertised posts under contractual arrangements and it was hoped that more teachers will join in the Khawas zone.
