rajouri, Aug 28: In yet another case of allegedly fraudulent execution of works under the centrally sponsored schemes in the district, the engineers and other staff of the MGNREGA have been accused of embezzling money meant for repair works of a revered shrine.
The locals said in 2016-17, Rs two lakh were released by MGNERGA for construction of retaining wall at the shrine of Baba Maimal at Dhaipur, some 15 kilometers from Sunderbani here.
The locals said only Rs 60,000 were spent the project whereas the remaining funds were embezzled by the project executing agency including concerned engineers and the Village Level Worker.
Bita Ram a labourer who has worked on the project said mere 30 bags of cement were used and that he has records of the work done.
Despite repeated attempts, the concerned officials didn't respond to phone calls.
The locals have appealed Governor SP Malik to get the matter probed. |
