FCS&CA Directorate celebrates J&K Consumers Day

Jammu, Aug 30: Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Jammu celebrated J&K Consumers Day other day at Jammu wherein few public interactions, group discussions and DD National talks were organized to create maximum public awareness about Consumer Rights and Responsibilities under the guidance of Director Amit Sharma and President, Consumer Protection Organization, Jammu Des Raj Danish.
The main function was organized at Press Club Jammu wherein Director FCS&CA Jammu Amit Sharma was the Chief Guest and Member State Consumer Protection Commission D.K Kapoor was the Guest of Honour. Apart from them, Joint Director FCS&CA Pawan Sharma, Deputy Director Supplies Joginder Singh, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Organization Dr Parvesh, President Retailers Association Yash Pal Gupta, Er Subash Khanna, Arun Kumar, Vice-Presidents of Consumer Protection Organization, Jammu and others were present in the function.
Chief Guest Amit Sharma in his presidential address urged the public to realize their rights as Consumers and act as true whistle blowers to expose wrong practices and fight for their rights as Consumers. At the same time, he cautioned public to create more awareness in younger generations who are the real consumers and have need a strong foundation to act as proactive consumers of the future. He also complimented Des Raj Danish, who has worked relentlessly towards this cause over last five decades and extended him full support and cooperation for all his future endeavours.
As a part of celebrations of J&K Consumer Day, lot of awareness was created in this Programme with a Live Demo by a Delivery Boy of LPG Gas Cylinder Installation, Pipe fitting, Mention of Expiry Dates, etc. Apart from this, D.K Kapoor gave an elaborate description of the role of Consumer Fora in addressing various Consumer related issues, relating to Product Malfunctioning and Deficient Service Delivery and the quantum of damages being awarded by Forum in different cases. One glaring fact shared by him was the unlimited amount of damages which can be awarded by State Consumer Forum in J&K which is a special unique feature of the state.
In the evening, as a part of J&K Consumer Day, a special half an hour live talk "Aaj Kal" was organized at DD National Jammu yesterday with Director FCS&CA Amit Sharma and Chairperson Consumer Protection Organization Jammu D.R Danish to create awareness about consumer rights and role of FCS&CA in helping people 24x7x365 through usage of helplines etc. The same can be seen on You Tube with a link https://youtu.be/sIxYbLhk13s on DD National Channel. Amit Sharma assuref public on this day that the department shall address all public issues with the introduction of Systemic Changes in functioning of the department and a visible change can be felt by consumers in upcoming season of festivities.
