Eye on polls, BJP, PDP turn into foes

Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 30: Weeks after ending their alliance that led to the fall of the coalition government, the BJP and PDP have decided to take on each other over several issues on which they would earlier praise each other. In this regard, both parties have decided to raise these issues with Governor keeping an eye on the upcoming polls.
The state is likely to face a series of elections. Besides the Lok Sabha elections next year, the state is yet to conduct its urban local bodies elections, which haven't been held since 2011 and the panchayat elections, which could not be held since 2016.
Keeping an eye on these polls, the PDP and BJP, which few weeks before were praising each other have become foes now.
"There are complaints about illegal appointments in several departments. We will like to raise issue with Governor to look into illegal appointments in departments, which were headed by BJP ministers," a PDP source said.
"There has also been mismanagement in several departments. We will also target the BJP on these issues how its ministers kept the funds unspent," the PDP leader said.
Similarly, a BJP leader said, "We have decided to raise the issue of speedy probe into JK's Khadi Village and Industries Board (KVIB) selections for various posts for which the enquiry team is yet to submit the report. This issue will be raised with Governor. If the probe is completed and accused is found guilty, it may help us in upcoming polls."
The BJP leader said that they would raise the issue why the probe has not been completed yet. "It has been six months but the fate of probe is unknown," he added.
On February 25, the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti ordered a high-level enquiry into the procedural inadequacies in the selection process of the KVIB.
She had ordered the probe following severe criticism over the appointment of her own nephew Aroot Madni (37), son of senior PDP leader Sartaj Madni as an executive officer in the board.
However, the committee has missed several deadlines so far and is unsure about timing for submitting the report.
The KVIB had issued an advertisement against vacancies on October 8, 2016. Shortlisted candidates took a written test in August 2017, and interviews for the position began in the last week of January.
