Early Times Report

Reasi, Sept 1: A former Assistant Regional Transport Officer Reasi has allegedly issued over a dozen route permits to the vehicles in connivance with agents, which were strictly prohibited in contravention of the order issued by the Transport Commissioner.
Sources told Early Times that an ARTO, who was posted in Reasi district for brief period of four months in 2015 and during his tenure, he issued route permits to vehicles (TATA 407 single tyre) which were totally inadmissible in hilly districts as per Transport Commissioner's order. "During 2012, the then Transport Commissioner, in his order had directed all the district officers of hilly areas by restricting them of issuance of rout permit to the vehicles (TATA 407 single tyre) after number of cases of accidents reported from the above said model, which was not suitable in hilly areas and generally prone to fatal accidents," they informed. They further informed that violating the guidelines of his senior officer, the former ARTO Reasi issued number of rout permits in collusion with agent in lieu of monetary benefits. Around 20 permits were issued to the people.
Astonishingly except Reasi, no other hilly districts issued such permits in compliance with the direction of the Transport Department. He was so clever that he got approved the file of permit from the then Deputy Commissioner Reasi, who is the Chairman of the approval committee. Local people demanded probe into the case and FIR against the then ARTO and urged for Vigilance investigation in this serious matter.
