Martyred Rifleman cremated with full military honours

KISHTWAR, Sept 2: The 30 year old Army Commando rifleman Shiv Kumar, son of Somnath resident of Karool Ikhala, Palmar, district Kishtwar who laid down his life while fighting the militants in Bandipora area of Kashmir yesterday was today cremated with full military honours. A large number of people, senior army, police officials and members from civil society attended the cremation of martyred jawan.
The mortal remains of the deceased was flown to 11 RR army base camp at Bhanderkot Kishtwar from where it was taken to his native place by road which is around 50 kms from Kishtwar.
After hearing about the news, large number of people assembled outside 11 RR army camp to pay homage to martyr Shiv Kumar, but army did not allow them inside the camp which disappointed the people. They (army) even did not allow the media persons to cover and report on the martyrdom of the Shiv Kumar.
As soon as the army truck brought the mortal remains out of the camp for shifting it to his native village, the people raised pro-India, pro-Shiv Kumar and anti-militancy slogans.
Shiv Kumar (30) was survived by his parents, wife, three minor children, brother and a sister.
After hearing about his death, large number of villagers and the relatives had already started rushing to his home for taking part in his last journey.
The 17 RR has made full arrangements at the village for the last rites and cremation of the dead body with full military honours.
The army also presented gaurd of honour to the martyred soldier and offered gun salute.
Speaking to Early Times, Vinay Kumar the brother of the martyred soldier said that the entire family is feeling proud over the supreme sacrifice of his brother while fighting the militants.
"My brother has taken the bullets on his chest with bravery. He has laid down his life for defending the mother land and we must feel proud for that," said Vinay Kumar. He said that army should continue to fight with the terrorist till each of them could be wiped out.
