200 school bags for free distribution rot in garbage dump
9/8/2018 10:40:51 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, Sept 8: It sounds incredible that more than 200 school bags meant for free distribution among the students of government schools in Kotranka education zone found in the garbage dump in Kotranka town in Rajouri district.
"This justifies the allegations levelled by the people of remote areas that the few among government school teachers/ employees of the education department are not sincere to their legitimate duties resulting in poor academic standard in the government schools especially in remote areas.
Sources said that these school bags were provided under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) few years ago to be distributed among the poor students but the concerned officials/ teachers instead providing to the students dumped these bags to be sold in the black market for the personnel financial gains.
This is very much clear when inspector Manzoor Kohli, SHO, Kotranka said, "Few days back after information about selling of school bags in the market by the government employees was received and accordingly inspection was carried out but without any recovery of objectionable material".
He added, apprehending trouble after police investigation those in possession of these school bags, abandoned them in the field where the garbage was dumped.
SHO said that on an information police rushed to the spot and recovered the school bags and brought to police station for further investigation under relevant sections of law.
Ch. Lal Hussain, Chief Education Officer when contacted said,"It was a very serious matter and needs detailed investigation. Committee will be constituted to identify the officials who were given charge to distribute these bags free among the students under their area".
He added stringent action after detailed inquiry against the erring officials can't be ruled out.
The matter came to light when a local spotted the bags carrying Logo of SSA lying in the garbage dump and informed the police.
