Delegation of PPMT calls on advisor Ganai

Jammu, Sept 10: A delegation of Pt.Prem Nath Bhatt Memorial Trust met the Advisor to the Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai today in connection with the passage of the all important Temples and Shrines Bill for the Hindu temples of Kashmir.
The delegation was led by the acting Chairman of the Trust Shiban Khaibri and others included H.N.Jatu, Manmohan Thaploo, H.L. Bhatt, Shadi Lal Koul and Virender Raina. The delegation presented a memorandum to the Advisor along with a copy of the Temple and Shrines Bill.
Shiban Khaibri apprised the Advisor regarding the importance of the bill. He said that due to the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from the valley majority of the Temple properties in Kashmir have witnessed a process of neglect and apathy resulting in damage, vandalization and usurpation. He also added that in many cases the Temple properties in Kashmir have been subjected to sale and purchase.
The other members of the delegation impressed upon the Advisor that the passage of the Temples and Shrines Bill is all important in order to protect the religious and cultural symbols of thousands of year old civilization. The members of the delegation impressed upon the Advisor that the Temples Bill may be passed by way of an ordinance to be issued by the Governor.
Senior leader H.N.Jatu said that the manner in which the religious places of other communities are governed by the Wakf Act and Gurudwara Prabandhak Comittee Act a similar law may be passed in order to protect and govern the affairs of the religious places of Hindus of Kashmir.
The Advisor gave a patient hearing to the members of the delegation and assured that the matter would receive due consideration. The honourable Advisor also issued on the spot orders to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to instruct all the Deputy Commissioners in all the districts to offer protection to the Temple properties from any possible attempt of vandalization or mischief of any kind including illegal sale purchase by land mafia.
