Kishtwar, Sept 10: Hundreds of non local labourers and masons hailing from West Bengal and Bihar today alleged harassment at the hands of some local unions who are allegedly forcing them to get registered with them and only carry out the works which the local union assigned them.
As per the details available with Early Times, these non local laborers and masons today approached the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar with written complaint seeking his intervention and action against the elements involved in harassing them.
They stated that some union leaders have started harassing them as a result of which large number of them have already started shifting back to their native places.
On the basis of the complaint filed by these non local labourers and masons, DC Kishtwar vide letter No. DCK/PS/18/1912 Dated 10-09-2018 directed SSP Kishtwar to take action against the culprits under law to redress the grievances of the applicant under intimation to his office so that conducive environment of law and order is also maintained.
Speaking to ET, these non local labourers and masons said that they were living in Kishtwar District for last several years and are now being forced to stop working in case they did not toe the line of the local union leaders.
They said that the local union leaders are pressurizing them to get themselves registered with them by way of providing Aadhaar cards and Rs. 100 as registration fee. They said that they are not ready to give any ADHAAR cards or any other documents to them and want to work the way they are working since last many years. They said that these union leaders today turned up at several place and forced them to abandon the work at under construction sites forcing them to approach the local administration and police. They urged upon the Jammu and Kashmir government to look into the matter and ensure their safety and security.
