Early Times Report

Udhampur, Sept 10: With authorities hinting at Local Bodies elections in December this year, political parties have started their activities.
Some activists are leaving their parties or independents to join other political outfits on lucrative offers. The prospective candidates have started meeting public and enquiring their well being.
It is pertinent to mention here that two prominent players Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) have announced not to participate in these elections in protest against raking up of the issue of scrapping Article 35-A which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir state and under which if any lady from this state marries to someone outside the state loses her state-subject. Even children born of such ladies also have no right to land in this state.
Other political parties are taking both NC and PDP to task for boycotting these polls. Some have even gone to the extent of saying that both PDP and NC are fearing a shameful defeat so they have preferred not to participate in these elections. The case is presently in Supreme Court and hearings have been postponed till January 2019 keeping in view the Local Bodies elections. In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, BJP, Congress and independents have started making preparations for the upcoming elections.
The candidates are approaching printing presses to negotiate prices for printing flags, pamphlets, banners etc. These presses are also going to have good business in coming days. Political parties are busy in listing faults of their political rivals and also their achievements to highlight these while making public speeches. Centre is also busy in ensuring peaceful elections here and soon companies of security forces will visit the state to help in accomplishing peaceful polling. The separatists have asked the public not to participate in these elections but it appears that there are no buyers of their call.
