Tourism Department bans outsourcing of Golf Course assets

Srinagar, Sept 12: Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has finally banned outsourcing assets belonging to Golf Courses of the state working under the administrative control of the department.
The Tourism department vide order No. 258-TSM of 2018 dated 11.092018 banned outsourcing and leasing out of properties belonging to Golf Courses of the state.
Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Rigzain Sampheal, IAS said that Golfers agitated and complained against outsourcing of Golf Course assets.
"Proposal related to outsourcing of Golf Course properties was moved but the Golf players' filled complaints and argued that outsourcing properties will disturb them fallowing which the order banning outsourcing and leasing out of properties belonging to Golf Courses of the state was issued," he said.
He however didn't clarify how Jammu Kashmir tourism department will realize revenue from these properties on which the department has spent more 100Crs over these years.
"We are going to promote Golf tourism by organizing Golf Tournaments in association with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry," he said.
Commissioner Secretary Tourism said Golf demands a calm atmosphere and they can't allow any such activity that can disturb players.
Well placed sources told that an influential lobby consisting politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen pressurized tourism department in last over four years and didn't allow them to outsource the Golf Course properties at different locations particularly in Pahalgam.
"Influential people including politicians and bureaucrats are using these properties for self comfort therefore they aren't allowing tourism department to outsource these assets," an officer said, however whished not be named.
He said that the department hasn't yet devised a mechanism to realize revenue from these assets or from Golf Courses.
"Golf Course development Authority isn't also taking over these Golf Courses" he added.
