Mufti's trusted aide hints at PDP- NC coalition in Kashmir
JK's political landscape at brink of a storm!
9/12/2018 11:26:10 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 12: The statement made by the PDP leader and a former Minister Syed Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday has raised several eyebrows hinting that the PDP is mulling a joint forum with arch rivals NC.
"In the interest of State and its people, PDP will not shy away from fighting any nefarious designs jointly with NC and other regional political forces for safeguarding the special constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir," Bukhari, the former minister in BJP-PDP coalition stated.
The PDP leader was reacting to the statements made by the bap leaders against his party over not taking part in the coming panchayat and urban local body elections. "Previously when PDP forged an alliance with BJP, the decision was taken purely keeping in view the interests of people of Kashmir. Now today when NC says something that is in the interest of Kashmiris, how can PDP duck out of its responsibility of protecting the interests of our people," he added.
The statement has dropped enough hints, suggesting that something is seriously going to happen in the state's political landscape and if the situation continues to remain unchanged on ground, the two parties- considered otherwise as arch rivals- my join hands and fight elections together.
In the same statement, the PDP leader launched a scathing attack against its coalition partner- BJP. "Unfortunately, the BJP didn't weigh the risks of dishonouring democracy in J&K and never tried to draw lessons from the history that has witnessed the subversion of democratic institutions and popular elected representatives at a grave cost to the State and the interests of its people," Bukhari said in a statement.
As per the political pundits, there are high chances that the PDP may weigh the option of going with the National Conference and contest the polls together and maintain a symbiotic relation with each other. Pertinently, soon after the fragmented mandate of the 2014 election in which no party in the state had enough numbers to form the government of its own, NC's vice president and former chief minister made an open offer to the PDP in a live TV interview, offering it an unconditional support to form the government and keep BJP at bay. Omar at that time substantiated his offer by the political development in Bihar in which Nitesh Kumar and Lalu Yadav had joined hands against the BJP. "If Nitesh and Lalu can do it in Bihar, why we can't we do it in Kashmir," Omar had said in the interview.
However, at that time, the PDP rejected the offer, stating that the party got votes to keep NC away from power and joining hands with it would tantamount to treason with its voters and supporters.
