Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 13: The Golf Development Authority, constituted four years ago by Jammu and Kashmir Government, has miserably failed to take over state golf courses due to the reasons best known to the government.
The authority, despite the passage of over four years now has also failed to streamline golfing activities despite the state having world class golf courses.
As per details, in 2013 NC-Congress coalition government constituted Golf Development and Management Authority in a bid to streamline golfing activities besides promoting Golf and managing the Golf courses. The authority was mandated to maintain, manage and promote all types of golf infrastructure and to establish golf information centers and golf courses. The Golf Development Authority was also mandated to hold Golf tournaments.
However, surprisingly the Golf Development Authority hasn't yet even taken over Golf Courses from Jammu and Kashmir tourism department.
Information gathered by Early Times reveals that Golf Development Authority hasn't held any tournament so far particularly in Lidder Valley Golf Course Pahalgam neither has established Golf Course information centers. The authority hasn't also established any other golf course or initiated process for establishing golf course despite the state having enough potential
Lidder Valley Golf Course Pahalgam is being maintained by Pahalgam Development Authority from 2002 and others including Patni-top Golf Course is being maintained by respective Development Authorities.
A tourism officer, whishing not to be named, said that Golf Courses across aren't being maintained up to the standards.
Ghalib Mohi-u-Din, who was appointed Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer Golf Development Authority in year 2013, admitted that the authority hasn't yet taken over any Golf Course.
"It's under process," he told early Times on Phone and insisted this reporter to contact Commissioner Secretary Tourism for further details.
"You please contact Secretary Tourism he will tell you why we aren't taking over Golf Courses," he said.
Secretary Tourism wasn't available for a comment.
