Kachra politics: Kashmiri netas 'provoke' people on garbage disposal problem
9/13/2018 10:25:39 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 13: Even as some of the prominent regional parties have decided to boycott the upcoming civic polls, the some of the politicians from the same parties have been allegedly provoking people over disposal of waste in Srinagar.
Sources said for the last few days some of the mainstream politicians are in constant touch with the residents of Achan, which houses the sole landfill site in Srinagar.
Even as the garbage disposal at the landfill site used to be largely normal, for the last around a month, the huge stench emanates from the site.
Sources said instead of picking up the matter with the concerned authorities, some of the leaders have told the Achen inhabitants that they were ready to support them for any agitation.
Sources said the leaders want to gain vote bank benefits by provoking people for a agitation.
In the past some of the agitations at the landfill site had proved deadly.
The mobs had resorted to violence while drivers carrying garbage to the disposal site were attacked. Many of the staffers of the civic body were seriously wounded in such incidents.
The situation had become such that the police escort was needed to dispose off garbage at the site.
A delegation of concerned citizens said it was high time for the local politicians to help the affected residents call a joint meeting with the concerned departments including Srinagar Municipal Corporation so that the genuine grievance is redressed.
"But on the contrary they(politicians) are doing politics even on garbage by assuring the affected inhabitants that any agitation against the garbage disposal would be supported by the political parties. This is disgusting," the concerned citizens said.
Sources said the police was keeping eye on the developments unfolding with regard to Achan garbage disposal and waste emanating from there.
Despite repeated attempts the politicians from various parties couldn't be contacted for comments.
