KUPWARA, Sept 18: The residents of Biyhama of this north Kashmir district are up in arms against the Roads and Buildings department for its failure to repair the dilapidated stretches of road in the area, which have been posing threat to the lives of commuters.
"The roads leading to our villages are in complete shambles and despite repeated pleas, the concerned department has failed to undertake any repair works, only the boulders were laid down and with the result commuters are facing huge inconvenience due to potholed roads", said sources.
Riyaz Ahmad of Biyhama Kupwara told Early Times over the phone that Manigah Sabaya Road was in dilapidated condition.
"From last two decades the R&B department has never done macdamization of roads and they have failed to repair the dilapidated road stretches in the area", said Riyaz.
Another local resident of Biyhama Ab Rashid said, "Several mishaps have occurred on these roads and many people have suffered grievous injuries and the concerned authorities have turned blind eye towards the issue".
People of the area have threatened to boycott elections if the said road was not repaired at the earliest. They have appealed to the Governor to take cognizance of their issue and direct the concerned department to wake from deep slumber.
