Jammu issues still unresolved, BJP struggles to put its act together
9/18/2018 10:53:39 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 18: Bharatiya Janata Party which had made tall promises before coming into power at the Centre is struggling to put its act together despite a few months left for the next parliamentary elections in the country.
"The BJP leaders had assured the people of Jammu region that once the party comes into power it would ensure that discrimination faced by the Jammuities would be done away with," an analyst told Early Times.
He said that people of Jammu went out of way to support the BJP in assembly as well as the parliamentary polls. "They were hoping that BJP leaders would ensure that the issues being confronted by them would be resolved. But it did not happen," the analyst added.
He said that BJP leaders after coming into power forgot their promises and left the people in lurch. "The promise of deporting Rohingyas and illegal migrants from Jammu remained confined to papers only," the analyst said.
He said that the BJP leaders from Jammu region remained busy in reaping the fruits of power after party joined hands with the Kashmir centric leaders. "It has been nearly three months since the day BJP has pulled out from the PDP led government in J&K. Till date none of BJP leaders from Jammu has made an attempt to tell the central leadership to take a call on the issue of Rohingyas, who are emerging as a threat for the entire Jammu region," the analyst said, adding, "When BP was sharing power with the PDP their hands were tied. Now someone should ask them what's stopping them from raking up this issue."
It may be recalled that recently the Sangh leadership had summoned the BJP leaders and had told them to focus on resolving the issues of people and forget about the government formation in the state.
The BJP central leadership is also grappling with number of issues vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir. "After pulling out from the PDP led government the BJP central leadership is trying to undo the wrongs which it had committed under the influence of the Kashmir centric leadership," said a politician.
He said that Jammu based BJP leaders have to realize that they have lost ground in Jammu due to the appeasement policy which they pursued when they were in power. "Had they put their foot down PDP would not have got its way. They should wake up and ask the central leadership to step in and address the issues which touch the skin of a common man in Jammu region. If they fail to do so they are destined to bite the dust in the forthcoming parliamentary polls," the politician added.
