Soz targets RSS chief for his views on J&K
Trifurcation issue

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 22: Former NC ideologue and Congress leader Saif-ud-Din Soz has upped his ante against the RSS and its chief Mohan Bhagwat. He has urged one and all to see through their game plan and oppose the RSS and its chief Mohan Bhagwat so that Jammu & Kashmir State remained intact and hegemony of Kashmir over Jammu and Ladakh was maintained.
What has provoked Soz to take on the RSS chief were the latter's comments on the idea of Jammu & Kashmir trifurcation made in New Delhi before a big congregation three days ago.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday endorsed the removal of Articles 370 and 35-A, both of which hold Jammu & Kashmir aloof from the national mainstream and grant the state a separate status with a separate constitution and separate flag plus all the residuary powers. Article 370 is "temporary" and Article 35-A is not part of the Indian Constitution. Article 35-A was applied to Jammu & Kashmir through a Presidential Order on May 14, 1954.
Mohan Bhagwat not only wanted an abrogation of these articles but he even went a step further. He asserted that it was for the government to decide whether it wanted the state to be divided into three parts: Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
"The idea behind the division of any state is administrative convenience and the country's integrity and security should remain intact. If on these parameters the government feels at any time that the state should be divided, then so be it. If not, the state may remain intact," Bhagwat explained.
This statement of Bhagwat has stung Congress leader Saif-ud-Din Soz and other Kashmiri leaders. Soz expressed regret at these statements and said that "he saw them as just one more step in the RSS' avowed ambition of building a Hindu Rashtra".
The Kashmir-based Congress leader didn't stop just here. He further called upon mainstream political parties "to note that even the subtle distance between the RSS and the BJP on political and social issues has evaporated, with the Indian society and particularly Muslims and minorities having to face very difficult times".
The issue troubling Kashmiris deals with the revocation of Article 35A which is being contested by the RSS, and it is with this objective that they have filed a petition before the Supreme Court, Soz has also pointed out.
