HC seeks report from PWD on condition of roads | Warns over non-compliance | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 25: The state high court on Tuesday sought status report from Public Works Department with regard to position and improvement of various roads which are under the supervision of department. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a division bench of Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Tashi Rabstan said that if the report was not filed by next date "appropriate action will follow." The court reiterated the directions passed on August 29 and granted one more opportunity to PWD to apprise the court on next date with regard to road condition in the Valley. On August 29 the court had also directed the Vigilance Organization of Kashmir to report the court about the status of FIR as registered in embezzlement of funds which were sanctioned for the construction and widening of road from Sumbal to Bandipora. The court had also directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to file a status report regarding the repairs of the stretch the road between Sumbal to Bandipora. During the hearing in a Public Interest Litigation, the counsel for the petitioner had said that he shall file the status report with regard to the portions of the National Highway A1 between Banihal and Srinagar as well as the link roads which are under the management of R&B Department of the Jammu and Kashmir. "Let the status report be filed with advance copies to counsel appearing for the respondents. The status report so submitted shall be examined by the respondents and in case the conditions of the roads is as complained, the respondents shall take all necessary steps for expediting the repairs as are required," the court had said. |
