MANUU hosts Three-Day International Conference on Translation

Hyderabad, Oct 10: Centre for Advanced Research and Training-Translation and Multilingualism, Osmania University, and Caesurae Collective Society in collaboration with Department of English, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) organised the IInd International Annual Conference on 'Translation Across Borders: Genres and Geographies' (9th - 11th Oct 2018).
Inaugural session was held on 9th October at CSE Auditorium, MANUU Campus. Prof. Shakeel Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor, MANUU presided over. Prof. Syed Mohammed Haseebuddin Quadri, Head, Department of English, MANUU, gave a welcome address and spoke about importance of translation.
Dr. Tharakeshwar V. B., Department of Translation Studies, EFLU while elaborating on the theme of the conference said that the importance and relevance of Translation is increasing day by day. Dr. Tharakeshwar emphasized that "translation is not just across languages but across genres." He further stressed upon the need and importance of Translation Departments in various universities across the globe.
In his address, Prof. T Vijay Kumar, OU emphasized on various resources in translation available in Osmania University. Multilingualism is in the DNA of Osmania University, he revealed and referred to its logo having Urdu, Hindi, English and Telugu alphabets. He also appreciated the collaboration between OU and MANUU for this conference. Prof. Shakeel Ahmed, Pro Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the conference and the art workshop. He appreciated efforts being invested into organizing 3-Day International Conference on the campus. He stated that this forum would help scholars and academic fraternity. Prof. Naseemuddin Farees, Dean of School of Languages, Linguistics & Indology, MANUU, and Prof. Deborah Logan and Dr. Rochelle Almeida from United States graced the occasion. Prof. Shagufta Shaheen of Dept. of English gave vote of thanks.
