SHO's intimidation tactics yields handsome deal with factory management

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 10: In a blatant misuse of official position, one of the Station House Officers (SHOs) posted in district Samba has coerced the management of an industrial unit to dole out monthly cash installment for him.
According to sources, the SHO 's arm twisting tactics enabled him to strike a deal with the management for monthly cash payment. "Besides the monthly cash payment, the SHO managed to extract more from the management in kind," said sources adding that though the SHO has taken over the charge of the police station only recently but he has already initiated moves to tighten noose over those from whom he could effortlessly extract easy money. "To start with, the SHO took advantage of a dispute between a group of workers and few officials of the factory. The group of workers, who were shunted out, had assaulted the factory officials after which the management reported the matter to the local police," said sources.
"The SHO backed the workers to pressurize the management, to which they eventually succumbed and entered into a deal with the SHO," sources added.
Sources further said that under the deal, the management of the factory agreed to pay a monthly cash installment to the SHO and in lieu of that a case was registered against the sacked employees of the factory. The employees were later forcefully removed from the factory premises. "A written assurance of not creating any nuisance inside the factory premises in future from the group of dismissed employees was taken following which the management was pressurized to agree upon the payment of monthly installment," said sources. "After finalizing the deal, the SHO assured the factory management that till the time he is incharge of the police station they will not face any trouble and that he will handle any future eventuality by applying official pressure," sources added.
