Governor's words are Delhi's words

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 18: The newly-appointed Governor SP Malik has again spoken a tough language. He has urged the separatists to abandon the cult of the gun failing which they will have to face bullets as 400-500 militants could snatch Jammu & Kashmir from India.
"Militants don't have 'much of a shelf life' with more than 40 being killed since August and should not expect bouquets if they fire bullets. It is simple. Goli chalaogay to goli chalegi, koi guldasta toh milega nahi (If you resort to firing, you will get a bullet in return. You are not going to get a bouquet in return)," Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday said in Srinagar while explaining away the stand of his government on the cult of terror being used as a weapon to destabilize India.
"Militants do not have much of a shelf life. The situation is not grave. Since I have joined, about 40 militants have been killed, stone pelting has come down and the number of local youths joining militancy has also come down. I am satisfied that on this front there is no worrying situation," he further reportedly said.
Governor Malik again reiterated that if dreaded LTTE could fail in Sri Lanka, militants in Kashmir will also get defeated. "For a country like India, getting rid of these 400 people is nothing. But the effort is to end terrorism and not terrorists. Here we are making attempts to kill the ideology of terrorism. Terrorism is not in the gun but in the mind…I will be making every attempt to set these minds free of the poison of terrorism," the Governor added.
Citing as an example Sri Lanka's Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Malik asked what it gained from terrorism. "It had the support of many countries and its own navy and dedicated cadres. What did it achieve out of it except death and destruction? In today's world order, forget India, no one can break even a smaller country," he emphatically said.
It is after years that any Jammu & Kashmir Governor has said what he on Wednesday said in unequivocal terms. His message was loud and clear and his message was that militants must lay down arms and join mainstream politics failing which they will have to face the state's might.
The ball is now in the court of militants. If they want the Indian security forces to remain calm and not fire, they and their over ground workers will have to change themselves. They must remember that India is a mighty state and it will not be a difficult task for it to take care of 400 to 500 militants active in Kashmir and half a dozen leaders in Kashmir, who have been fomenting anti-India troubles to promote their own vested interests at the cost f the common people. They should also remember that Governor's words are the Union Government's words and his warning the Union Government's warnings. There should be no doubt about it. The sooner they realize it, the better.
