JAMMU, Oct 22: Institute of Management Sciences (IMS) organized guest lecture on "Entrepreneurship Development under Professional Management - An Empirical Experience" in the campus for the students of MBA, BBA, MCA and BCA. The resource person was Prof. Mukhopadhyay, Dean Management Studies, SMVDU, Katra.
At the outset, Prof. S.K. Gupta, Dean Academics, IMS, welcomed Prof. Mukhopadhyay for accepting our request and be a part of the programme. Prof. Gupta explained in brief the importance of entrepreneurship in the modern times and stressed the students to become job providers instead of job seekers after completion of their professional courses.
Prof. Mukhopadhyay, while speaking on the occasion, said that Entrepreneurship is the art of starting a business, basically a start-up company offering creative product, process or service i.e. an activity full of creativity. He further explained in detail that an entrepreneur perceives everything as a chance and displays bias in taking decision to exploit the chance and discussed various lacunas of the system. He further opined that an entrepreneur is a creator or a designer who designs new ideas and business processes according to market requirements and his / her own position.
To be a successful entrepreneur, it is very important to have managerial skills and strong team building abilities. Leadership attributes are a sign of successful entrepreneurs. He discussed at length various steps for the success of the units viz: to lay focus on the venture development, identification of local market and research for the people who have potential in it. He summed up the discussion by stressing on these tips: Start a business for which you are passionate and have knowledge, pick up a business idea which has a big market opportunity, raise as much start up funding as you can, constantly monitor your finances, have advice from other entrepreneurs, develop a great elevator pitch, hire the right people, never stop networking, ensure great customer service. He further advised the students to learn the fundamentals of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so that people searching for your products and services might find you near the top of research results.
All the faculty members and students of the institute attended the lecture. The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. J.R. Dhotra. He appreciated the efforts of the institute for exposing the students to such a wonderful skill component
