Tributes paid to martyrs of Qila Darhal

Rajouri, Oct 28: Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of Qila Darhal, Nowshera, who fought against Pakistani raiders during 1947-48, 1965, 1971 and 1999 and laid down their lives for the country.
A grand function is being held every year on this October, 28 to commemorate the civilian martyrs who laid down their lives to defend their country and had repulsed the attack by the Pakistani treacherous and murderous raiders in 1947.
The Akhand path of Shri Guru Granth Sahib and Guru-ka-Langar was also held at Shaheed Garh Gurudwara at the place of memorial (civilians & personnel from security forces from the area) at Qila Darhal where besides hundreds of civilians, army, civil, police officers paid their tributes to the martyrs.
Reports said that Nowshera Brigade Commander also paid rich tributes to the martyrs and also saluted their families for their sacrifices for the sake of the nation and in defeating the nefarious designs of Pakistan.
In 1947-48 many deserters from Maharaj's of J&K army joined the Pakistani invaders and attacked the fort at Darhal (Qila Darhal) in Nowshera sub divison.
President , Gurudwara Sahib, Harmohinder Singh; Retd . captain Balwant Singh; tehsildar Qila Darhal ,Suresh Kumar; ex-captain Ravinder Singh, Harmeet Singh, Nanak Singh, Surinder Kour, Sunit Kour, Harmeet Kour and social worker Zorawar Singh Khalsa also spoke on this occasion.
Few Sikh warriors under the command of Jathedar Ram Singh and ex-subedar Ranjeet Singh and on October 28 a fierce battle was fought between these Sikh warriors and Pakistani intruders who were forced to retrieved.
In this battle Jathedar Ram Singh and his colleagues namely Hukam Singh, Sohan Singh, Suchan Singh and Pritam Singh also attained martyrdom.
The brave Sikhs continue to defend the Darhal Fort with limited resources till the Indian army reached on November 15.
The survivals including Sub Ranjeet Singh, Prem Singh, Diwan Singh, Ram Singh etc contacted the army commander and Darhal area was librated and the people who were protecting the Darhal Fort came out in the first week of December.
People of the area have expressed resentment against sitting MLA, Ravinder Raina (BJP) for neglecting their area.
