Additional month salary: Employees have to discharge duties both in ULB, Panchayat polls
11/8/2018 10:13:31 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Nov 8: The employees would get additional one month salary only after they (similar employees) perform their duties in both urban local bodies and panchayat polls.
The state government has announced additional salary to all the government employees who will be on poll duty.
The employees discharged their duties in the four-phase ULB polls, held on October 8, 10, 13, and 16.
Even though the formal orders for additional one month salary is yet to be announced, the government has decided that those employees who discharged duties in ULB elections will be assigned the same role for upcoming panchayat polls to avail the benefit, an official said.
"One month additional salary will be provided to employees who perform their duties in both the elections. The order in this regard will be announced shortly. The employees won't get two month additional salaries," the official said.
The employees recently performed duties for 1,145 wards in 79 municipal bodies in Jammu and Kashmir. While the employees now have to discharge duties for nine-phase panchayat polls in the state to 316 blocks in 4,483 panchayat Halqas comprising 35,029 panch constituencies from November 17.
However, he said that polling staff from Srinagar and Jammu districts would be deputed to other districts. "The panchayat elections will be held in only four blocks in Srinagar unlike the urban local bodies when polls were held across the district," the official said.
Unlike in the previous elections, the government employees have shown more interest in poll duty for the promised one-month salary.
An employee, who was on duty at a polling booth at Batamaloo in the municipal polls, said he got his name included in the list on request.
"I requested the authorities concerned in our Education Department, and they helped me," the official said, wishing anonymity. An employee in the office of the DDC Srinagar said they received a lot of applications from the employees wanting to be on poll duty.
He said they received a "huge response" from the employees for the election duty. "I believe this is for the first time that employees have shown so much interest to be part of the election duty," the official said.
In the previous elections, the official said that they would receive applications from employees, who were unwilling for polling duty and wanted canceling their duties.
