Early Times Report

jammu, Nov 8: During elected governments, Jammu region was always discriminated against, but what has come as a shocker is that the situation is no better even under the Governor's rule.
For example, out of 109 newly appointed Medical officers, only 31 have been posted in various health institution of Jammu division.
The government, vide order No: 453-HME of 2018, dated:08-08-2018, had posted 109 newly appointed Medical Officers across the state.
For 12 districts of Kashmir division, the Health department posted 78 Medical Officers while 10 districts of Jammu division got only 31. "It clearly proves that the Governor's administration has neglected Jammu division, at least in the crucial health sector," an official of the Health and Medical Education department told Early Times while requesting not to be named.
Sources said that most of the candidates under this list belong to Kashmir division, but the fact is that the Medical Officer post is a state level post and both divisions have equal right.
"If the Health department had posted the newly appointed Medical Officers equally in both the divisions of the state, it would not have been seen a Discrimination. But the department posted the doctors in the division where they belong to," said sources.
As per last census, both divisions do not a huge population gap, but astoundingly every time Jammu faces discrimination in employment in public sector, posting of employees, allocation of funds, etc.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Health department has 50 percent shortage of doctors in both divisions. The higher officials of the department, however, appear hell bent on streamlining the health sector of Kashmir division only. Many district hospitals of Jammu region have 80 percent posts of doctors vacant for years, but the authorities have failed to post a single newly appointed Medical Officer in these hospitals.
Health and Medical Education department's Principal Secretary Atul Dulloo was not available for comments.
