No holiday for Chief Secy

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 12: Even as some divisive forces in the valley are fueling propaganda that non-local and non-Muslim officers are helm of affairs to "victimize Kashmiris", the working of Chief Secretary BVR Subramaniam is befitting reply to such elements.
Given the forecast of bad weather in Kashmir for this week, the Chief Secretary didn't avail his last weekend holidays but preferred to spend the time to review preparedness in the valley.
Sources said soon after landing in Srinagar on Saturday, the chief secretary straight rushed to winter secretariat where he held a series of meetings.
Apart from the official machinery, the Chief Secretary held meeting with the business community and the civil society to get their feedback.
Sources said the meetings continued till late in the evening and that next morning on Sunday, Subramaniam was again active with meetings till he left for Jammu.
Sources said during a meeting held from the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the Chief Secretary made it clear to the official machinery that no indiscipline or laxity in providing services to the people would be tolerated.
Sources said the Chief Secretary directed the administration to ensure providing good services to the people during the bad weather conditions.
One official while talking on the condition of anonymity said it was for the first time in the recent years that he found any officer so concerned about Kashmir.
"He (chief secretary) as very upset with the complaints of maladministration during the recent snowfall when essential services remained suspended. He cautioned the official machinery about lapses on their part," said a source privy to the meeting. Pertinently for the past few months, some forces in Kashmir have been trying their best to create a public opinion that non-local officials are not good for Kashmir.
Sources said a lobby of local politicians and bureaucrats have been backing such forces.
Sources said working of Chief Secretary has unnerved such forces.
