srinagar, Nov 12: The additional charge syndrome is not only prevalent in the administration of Jammu & Kashmir but also at the other institutions involved in academics as well as research with University of Kashmir being no exception in this regard.
Early Times has learnt from sources that many professors as well as officers at the University of Kashmir are holding more than one position. In such a manner these officials are obstructing the elevation of their colleagues who could have been given the charge of positions held by them.
"Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir Professor Talat Ahmad has brought many changes in the administration at the varsity, but lot more needs to be done in this regard. There are many professors and officers at the university who are holding more than one position at the university campus," said sources.
"Professor G N Khaki, Director, Centre of Central Asian Studies, is holding one more post and that is as Provost (Boys). Professor S Mufeed Ahmad, Dean School of Business Studies is holding one more post as Director State Resource Centre (SRC), University of Kashmir," said sources.
Sources said that although some of the senior professors have been given more than due role and responsibilities in the form of additional charges there are many others who have been left high and dry. They said that senior professors should have been divested of additional charges and the positions should have been given to the other senior professors.
"Altaf Ahmad, Joint Registrar (Budget and Creation) is holding one more post as Director Convocation. Dr. Mohammad Shafi Sumbli, Rector Kargil Campus is holding the position of in-charge Rector Leh Campus. Professor Nilofar Khan, Registrar, University of Kashmir is also discharging her responsibilities as Dean College Development Council," said sources.

She also functions as Dean, School of Biological Sciences.
"Professor Lily Want, Head of Department English is holding one more post as School of Arts, Languages and Literature. Professor Inyatullah Tahir, Head Department of Botany is holding one more position as Coordinator of Bio-resources. Professor Mohammad Hussain, Head Department of Law is also working as Dean of Law faculty," said sources.
Sources said that Professor M Iqbal Mattoo, Head Department of Education also holds the position of Dean, School of Education & Behavioral Sciences., They said the Kupwara campus of University of Kashmir is without the Director since its inception and no attention whatsoever is paid towards the same.
Sources said that Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) is run by senior assistant professors since 2015 as the position of Director at the cell is vacant. They said that the position of Director, Information Technology and Security Solutions (IT&SS) is also lying vacant and is handled by a junior official.
