Early Times Report Vijaypur, Nov 13: Former Minister and district president, Samba, Manjit Singh today demanded arrest of those who allegedly abducted an independent candidate from a police gypsy in the district. In a statement, former minister Manjit Singh said it is shameful to know that police was unable to safe an elected candidate of Municipal Committee from the alleged kidnappers. "The independent candidate was on his way to fill form for chairmanship but he was allegedly abducted from the police and police remained mute spectator and eyewitness to the entire episode," said Manjit Singh. Expressing shock, he said, this act immediately went viral on the social media and everyone knows who was behind the alleged kidnapping and how police failed to do anything to safe the candidate. The candidate was taken to the residence of a known political figure of Vijaypur, he alleged, further maintaining that "Unfortunately, police did not take any action against such people who have criminal attitude and who openly challenge law-and-order." "None among those who abducted the candidate has been booked or arrested by the police. Police often shows power to poor people and fails in front of powerful people," he said. "Why there is no action by the police even as culprits have been identified in the video which has gone viral on the social media," he said. Former Minister and district president, Congress party in Samba, said that "Police can take suo-moto cognizance. We want action because this act has shaken trust of normal people on the police department." The former minister said that if such criminals, challenging openly the democratic setup by abducting a candidate for chairman post of MC from the police gypsy, cannot be booked in Governor Rule what can be accepted. |
