Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 14: At a time when students need better academic and recreational facilities inside college campuses, the college management in most of the government degree colleges are busy spending tax payers' money on so called international conferences. Even the local fund collected from students is also used in such programmes which otherwise is to be used for benefit of students. One such so called "international conference" was organized at Amar Singh College early this year in April. Some person from Nigeria had been invited by college authorities along with his wife. Their pictures were taken and circulated in local press and social media and this event was given name of international conference.
Details available with Early Times reveal that Amar Singh College Srinagar on April 17 this year had organized International conference themed 'Recent Development in Science, Humanities and Management -2018 (ICRDSHM-18)'. According to college authorities more than 2200 research papers from different institutions and scholars from across India were for the International Conference .The two-day conference organised by Amar Singh College the constituent college of Cluster University Srinagar in collaboration with the Conference World (A.R Research Publication. The college authorities had claimed presentation of 500 research papers in 2 days which is highly impossible.
Vice Chancellor (VC) Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Shiekh Javid Ahmad who was the chief guest on the occasion said, "Seminars and workshops play an important role to upgrade the technology and development of the country and Cluster University Srinagar is ahead in conducting such events.
Speaking on the occasion, researcher and expert on Information technology from Nigeria, Abu Bakar Abdullahi highlighted various aspects of present-day information technology.
"Why this international conference didn't have academicians or people from prestigious institutions of our own country? Where in a conference 500 papers are presented in two days? There must be quality audit to check these aberrations otherwise our education system will be nothing but a joke" said Umar Farooq a student of Amar Singh College Srinagar.
"Mere inviting a Nigerian national and his wife to college can't make a small meeting an international conference? If the visiting guest had wife with him, why was she asked to speak during a technical conference on an irrelevant topic of personal hygiene? I appeal to the authorities to hold an inquiry into April 2018 conference and it should be probed who had invited Nigerian national and what has been his academic background?" said a college teacher pleading anonymity.
