Cong-NC 'bhai, bhai' for Kishtwar MC chief post

Early Times Report
kishtwar, Nov 14: After delay of over four weeks since the result for 13 wards of Kishtwar Municipal Committee (MC) were declared, the battle lines have been drawn for the post of president MC.
Speaking to Early Times, I/C Executive Officer, MC Kishtwar, Vinod Kumar said that two candidates, Raiz Ahmed Zarger and Sajjad Ahmed Najjar, have filed their nomination for the post of president MC Kishtwar.
Also, three candidates, Firdous Ahmed Mingnoo, Rafiqa Begum and Zahid Hussain Sheikh filed their nomination papers for the post of vice president Kishtwar. Kumar added that the scrutiny of the documents will take place on Thursday and voting through secret ballot will be held on 16-11-2018.
Meanwhile, the Congress party that has two members in Kishtwar MC on Wednesday extended the support to NC-backed six members and unanimously resolved to file former ADDC Kishtwar for the post of president while Congress will get vice-president post. Both parties are likely to sail through in case there will be no cross-voting in favour of the PDP candidate Sajjad Najjar who is hopeful of having a requisite number.
"I am hopeful of win. Let voting take place, the results will be in my favour," said Najjar while keeping his cards close to his chest.
For the post of vice president, three candidates are in fray after a lone candidate Zahid Hussain Sheikh changed his allegiance from one camp to another and filed his nomination papers.
Zahid had earlier struck a deal for the post of vice president with the NC leadership, but internal rebellion within NC derailed the move as Congress also extended the support to NC-backed candidates after the decision of the same was taken by the party in meeting held Wednesday under the leadership of MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.
Zahid later levelled serious allegations in a video massage against NC leadership, alleging that he was kidnapped and forced to sign the support documents in favour of NC-backed candidates. He also circulated the photographs with PDP leaders in public domain claiming that he was never in NC and nor will be its part in future. But only few days ago he again shifted his loyalty towards NC and agreed to support NC-backed candidate for the post of president. But the same got derailed with the support extended by the Congress to NC as a result of which he remains alone in the fight between the PDP and NC.
Both PDP and NC had announced boycott of Panchayat and ULB elections, but were caught on wrong foot by fielding proxy candidates.
Two Congress, one BJP and 10 independent candidates were declared winners in recently held Kishtwar MC elections.
