Residents decides to boycott Panchayat elections over delay

vijaypur, Nov 15: Adopting unconventional method, the people of village Lian Bagoon of Samba District has decided to boycott upcoming Panchayat elections as a protest against administration for not making Health Sub Center in the village functional despite the fact that building was ready two years ago.
Sources told Early times that keeping in view the need of health center in the village, the Health Department had got constructed a building for Health Sub Center in the village two and half years ago but it failed to make it functional by not appointing required staff which defeated its purpose.
They alleged people having been facing huge problem due to non availability of medical facility. Although residents had been continuously raised the issue on various platform yet the demand remained unaddressed.
Some prominent residents of the village Lian Bagoon including Chiman Lal, Rajinder Singh , Rattan Singh , Satpal Singh , Mohamad Noor Hussain, Khatun Begum in one voice decided to boycott upcoming Panchayat elections as a mark of protest against government for its apathetic attitude for depriving the people of health care facilities. Pertinently, the Panchayat elections in Samba District are going to be held on December 4, 2018.
They alleged that what is purpose of holding elections when rural people are not being provided with the basic and most important facility of health. Government claims of providing all kind assistance to strengthen rural areas but locked building meant for Health Sub Centre depicts failure of concerned administration. They informed that the delegation of village Lian Bagoon gave several representation before the district administration in this connection but instead of empty assurance nothing was done. Similarly, the people of the village had also boycotted the assembly elections in 2014 to express their resentment on various issues related to development of the village.
