After Chhewang, more Ladakhi leaders to quit BJP
Humiliated by party's pro-Kashmir top-brass
11/16/2018 11:01:19 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 16: Virtually humiliated and betrayed by the nationalist BJP, many more Buddhist leaders from Ladakh would follow footsteps of the tallest Ladakhi leader Thupstan Chhewang who quit the saffron party on Wednesday.
Although BJP leadership is giving different excuses to save their skin, credible sources said that Chhewnag had resigned from the primary membership of the BJP due to humiliation being meted out to people of Ladakh by the BJP leadership to appease some Kashmir-based leaders.
During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had promised to grant Union Territory (UT) status to Ladakh. But due to pressure from some Kashmir-based leaders, the BJP rejected that long pending demand of the Ladakhi people.
Also, these days BJP is giving importance only to some Kashmiri leaders and top party leaders have no time to visit Ladakh. Even a key BJP leader who frequently visits Kashmir Valley to appease some Kashmir-based leaders, never got time to visit Ladakh.
As reported earlier, in a major setback to the BJP in the Ladakh region ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for next year, the party's lone Lok Sabha member and its tallest leader Thupstan Chhewang resigned from both the primary membership of the saffron party and as Lok Sabha member.
Chhewang was not happy with the Centre and the state government's approach towards the Ladakh region. He had openly resented the party's decision to form an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party.
Chhewang had not campaigned for the party candidates in the recently held urban local bodies polls in Ladakh. The BJP failed to open its account in both Kargil and Leh districts in the civic polls.
