Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 17: The failure of authorities to provide security to Sarpanch and Panch candidates in erstwhile Doda district has been a cause of concern for the people especially after the killing of Parihar brothers early this month by terrorists in Kishtwar.
With the opening of new front by terrorists in hilly reaches of Jammu region after feeling heat of the security forces in Kashmir Valley, the people especially the political activists are facing constant threat of terrorists.
But instead of tightening security measures and providing security to candidates contesting Panchayat elections, the district administration has made clear that it did not have the required man power.
Sources said though Panchayat poll are contested on non party basis but political parties too have failed to take up the security issues with authorities forcefully.
The BJP whose leader has been eliminated along with his brother in Kishtwar has too taken a lenient view of candidates security which is also a grave cause of concern for people, sources added.
This attitude of district administration has perturbed the candidates who said administration response is totally irresponsible and this way they have put then in the mercy of God.
The Government before deciding holding of Panchayat and U L B elections in the State should have framed a proper strategy for security of candidates which they have failed to do for obvious reasons.
Hundreds of candidates are contesting the Panchayat elections in hilly belt of Jammu to strengthen the democracy at grass root level.
But with the failure of authorities to provide security to these candidates had put them to grave risk with many of candidates thinking to opt out from poll process.
