Separatists & militants derail peace in Kashmir
11/18/2018 8:16:52 PM
Separatists have faith in democracy and democratic practices but not the one that is prevailing in Kashmir. And if the separatists blame the successive state Governments or the successive central Governments for having mauled democratic traditions they are wrong. Instead these separatists should hold responsible for paralyzing democratic norms and look at the separatists, whether in the Assembly or the Lok Sabha elections or the recent ULB polls or the ongoing Panchayat elections these separatists have given a call to people to boycott these elections with the result polling percentage has remained quite poor. And the separatists twist their moustache to herald their success. Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said Hurriyat believed in democracy but not the one prevailing in Kashmir. "We believe in democracy but not the one that is prevalent in Kashmir under presence of lakhs of forces who are out to muzzle all democratic rights of people. Meaning of democracy here is military might," If there is Army or the CRPF deployed in the Kashmir valley separatists are responsible for having derailed peace by inciting incidents of violence.
The separatist leadership and people of Kashmir have time and again rejected every election thrust on them with a view to dilute the disputed nature of Kashmir and strengthen and legitimise Indian rule in J&K.
Mirwaiz said Government of India can't stop people of Kashmir from demanding their right to self-determination. He said people of Kashmir would once again reject the "sham poll Amid threat from militants and tightened security measures, the first phase of panchayat elections was being held on Saturday. Foolproof security arrangements have been put in place for smooth conduct of first phase of panchayat polls . They said contingents of forces would be deployed at polling stations while contingency plans have been put in place in all areas, where polling would be held, to deal with any situation.
"Separatist leaders talk of sham elections but who are responsible for these sham elections. None but the separatists and the militants. These militants have come from across the LoC with specific task of derailing peace by inciting people to resort to incidents of violence. The effective security arrangements are in place and vigil has been heightened across the state. We hope of peaceful conduct of polls. In the past ULB, Panchayat or Assembly or Lok Sabha elections were held but the security measures have remained on a low key. These security forces have not been deployed in strength and for the deployment of security forces separatists, militants and the subversives are responsible. The conduct of panchayat elections has been described as "big challenge" by security officials. Besides, police, CRPF and army stationed in Valley, over 400 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in Kashmir for smooth conduct of the panchayat polls.
To deal with militant threats, forces have been conducting frisking at many locations on highways and other major locations to check militant movement.
