Supports Independent candidate for President, gets VP in exchange

Rajouri, Nov 18: An Independent candidate has become the president of Rajouri Municipal committee for which election was held today.
Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) gave a big shock to Congress when it extended support to an independent candidate for the post of president Rajouri Municipality and in lieu got elected its candidate as vice president.
Mohd Arif, an independent candidate from ward No.16 has been elected president while a senior BJP leader Bharat Bhusan Vaid elected as vice president.
Earlier Congress leadership headed by former Health Minister, Advocate Shabir Ahmed Khan had claimed that it has managed the required support of 2 independent candidates in favour of Iftikhar Ali Dar for the president post and in return the Congress will support independent candidate Sanjay Sharma for vice president.
After the settlement Iftikhar Dar filed nomination papers for president post and Sanjay Sharma for vice president.
Independent candidate Mohd Arif and Rajinder Gupta, BJP (ward No.10) had also filed their nomination papers for president ship and Bharat Bhusan Vaid, BJP from ward No.6 filed papers for vice president post.
Congress had won 7 seats out of 17 while 6 BJP candidates were declared winner and 4 independents had also won.
But the Congress after being confident about the victory, failed badly to read the later developments and senior BJP leaders managed the support of the independents at the last moment.
At the eleventh hour BJP leadership in a big jolt to Congress managed support of three independent candidates for its candidate Bharat Bhusan Vaid for the post of vice president and in lieu supported Mohd Arif for the post of president.
Vibodh Gupta, MLC (BJP) congratulated the new team while Mohd Arif has assured for a professional Municipal team for Rajouri.
Bharat Bhushan Vaid in his message termed the formation of municipal committee in Rajouri with support from BJP as a historic that will transform Rajouri town.
