Rajouri, Nov 28: One aspiring Sarpanch who is contesting the ongoing Panchayat polls in Sunderbani here along with his family members and other supporters last evening attacked a journalist wounding him. The wounded journalist has been referred to Jammu for specialized treatment.
Reports said journalist Ajay Sharma was driving his personal vehicle JK01A Swift Desire near his home when a white Innova with a Haryana registration number waylaid him.
Sharma told Early Times that after forcibly stopping the vehicle, a group of persons led by Mohan Lal son of Dhani Ram of Nohoti attacked him and his vehicle with sticks and other weapons unprovoked. "Before I would ask anything they started beating me and damaged by vehicle," Sharma said.
As per Sharma, other assailants included Depi Kumar and Shunu Kumar sons of Moham Lal, Applu son of Suraj Prakash.
Mohan's brother Satpal, and Vikas Sharma son of Harsbans Lal of Nahoti also attacked Sharma.
Witnesses said Sharma fell in a pool of blood and was taken to hospital by locals who rushed to the spot.
The Rajouri hospital has referred Sharma who received serious injuries to Jammu for specialized treatment.
The locals said the accused Mohan Lal claims to be BJP leader, while the party has refuted the allegations saying they don't accommodate such "bad people".
Despite repeated attempts the accused couldn't be contacted for comments.
