AAP assails political parties for rhetoric on elected Sarpanchs, Panchs
11/29/2018 10:07:42 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 29: Apropos to the news published in various sections of press, day in and day out the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly criticized all political parties particularly Congress, NC, PDP and BJP for their rhetoric that they have managed such number of Sarpanchs or Panchs in such number of blocks across the state, though these elections are based on non-party basis.
In a meeting held here under the chairmanship of National Council & Founder Member, Deep Singh, various speakers alleged that these political parties are responsible for various amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act 1989 making it a simple "Toothless Tiger" to suit their interests rather than making it to decentralize the powers at grass root level into the hands of public representatives in a democratic manner. They further alleged that for fear of getting irrelevant and politically un-employed, the local MLAs and ministers did not allow to constitute three tier Panchayati Raj system in the state like other states in the country. They urged upon Governor Satya Paul Malik to bring an amendment in the P R Act banning all political nominations including that of Chairman to the District Planning & Development Board. Hailing the dissolution of state Assembly by the Governor at a time when BJP had failed to get the numbers, the action initiated by the gubernatorial office is still a welcome step. AAP demanded that the state Assembly elections should be held along with Lok Sabha elections.
