Cops, locals clash at Nowshera
Massive turnout in 5th round

Rajouri, Nov 29: 82.81% polling has been recorded in 5th round of Panchayat polls in Sunderbani, Seri and Nowshera blocks in Rajouri district today.
An incident of physical clash between people and cops was also reported from a polling booth in ward No.9 of Chowki Handan Panchayat in Nowshera block following allegations of fake polling by the supporters of former sarpanch.
In a viral video, residents of ward No 9 alleged that the former sarpanch, who is also in fray, had distributed liquor which was also seized by SHO, Nowshera and money among the voters and few employees including a cop on duty was also found guiding people to vote in his favour.
Sachin Dev Singh, ADC Nowshera, has denied any such incident. According to Sher Singh Thakur, ADC Rajouri , out of 58153 eligible voters in Sunderbani, Nowshera and Seri blocks 48159 have cast their votes to elect 40 sarpanch and 330 panches.
For 14 seats of sarpanches and 114 constituencies of panches in Nowshera block, out of 19261 eligible voters including 9289 females 15902 have cast their votes while in Seri block for 9 sarpanch seats and 69 panch constituencies, 9130 have cast their votes out of eligible 11389 voters including 5507 females.
In Sunderbani block out of eligible 58153 voters including 22751 females, 47160 have voted to elect 17 sarpanch and 147 panch.
During the day District Election Officer (DEO) Rajouri Mohammad Aijaz Asad accompanied by SSP, Yougal Manhas visited several hypersensitive and sensitive polling stations. Several concerns raised by contesting candidates were addressed on the spot.
