Jammu, Nov 30: DPS Nagbani is purely based on 'Green School' in which the school is following the guidelines of Indian Green Building Council-(IGBC) about the pollution free environment by various techniques like encouraging greenery in the school campus, rain water harvesting, polythene free campus, conserving and harvesting energy and using eco-friendly school material for which the school has been awarded Gold rated Green School by World Green council. With an aim to promote natural remedies a herbal garden has been set up in the school premises. This garden has important herbs which include Vajardanti, Nirgundi, Ashwagandha, Parijaat, Brahmi, Peepli, Gulmehendi, Gilloy, Dalchini, Turmaric, Phalsa, Ratanjot, Imli, Tulsi, lemongrass, isabogal etc. Moreover, the students have planted and adopted trees in the campus like Arjuna, Ashoka, Gulmohar, Neem, Chandan, Jamun, Amla, Baheda, Reetha, Banana, Guava, Chikkoo, licchi, Mango, Kinnu etc. The names and the benefits of the trees, plants and herbs are indicated on the name plates. Herb is a plant part that has historically been used for medicinal, culinary or fragrance purposes. Herbs can also be defined as 'Useful Plants". With this broad look at the word herb, many medicinal plants have been planted in this herbal garden. Many herbs also offer a great deal ornamental value to the garden as well. At intervals the students are, made to visit this garden so that they may also be encouraged to know about the valuable plants and grow them in their gardens. During the visit to the Herbal Garden today, Ms. Saroj Salgotra -(Science Teacher & Incharge Herbal Garden) said that planting herbs is a wonderful sight, smells and tastes of a wide variety of plants. Gardening is a terrific hobby and allows opportunity for creativity. It is a great activity that can be shared with others also. |
