SIDCO turns into fiefdom of ex-Industries minister
Macadamisation works worth Rs 70 cr given sans tendering
11/30/2018 10:50:44 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 30: All is not well in J&K State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) whose incumbent Managing Director has allegedly allotted work of macadamisation worth Rs 70 cr to a private company without tendering.
Besides, most of the work was carried by the Industries minister in the erstwhile PDP-BJP government and his nephew.
Sources informed Early Times that the Managing Director has not taken the lesson from his predecessor who was recently booked by Vigilance Organisation (VO) for his alleged involvement in illegal recruitment and other malfunctioning prevailing in the corporation.
"Following the footsteps of his predecessor, the incumbent MD has also allotted spree of projects of macadmisation to a particular firm in violation of norms", sources said while wishing anonymity.
They said the work of premix bituminous macadamisation of SIDCO centres like Bari Brahamna, Samba, Kathua and Gatti were allotted to TBA infrastructure Pvt. Limited. The work amounts to more than Rs 70 cr, in violation of set norms, that too given to a company wherein the nephew of former minister has stakes. "In some SIDCO centres the macadamisation work has been completed and in some centres the work is in progress", sources said.
Sources further alleged that the work has allotted to above mentioned company but practically the macadamisation work has been done by the nephew of former Industries minister.
The callousness of corporation can be gauged from this fact that despite government clearly mentioning that work worth more than Rs 10 lakh should be done by e-tendering, but the cash-starved corporation allotted most of the work worth several crores to relatives of former ministers that too without tendering.
One of the officials of the corporation said that in most the corporations, the officials have devised novel methods to save the interest of the politicians and offers spree of projects to relatives of these politicians.
