Resign from Cabinet, work with Rahul Gandhi if Amarinder is not your captain: Punjab Minister tells Sidhu
12/1/2018 7:01:46 PM
NEW DELHI: A day after cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu had said Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was his 'captain', Punjab Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa hit out at him.

Bajwa said that Sidhu should resign from state Cabinet if he does not consider Chief Minister Amarinder Singh as his captain. "If he does not consider Capt Amarinder as his captain then he should resign on moral grounds from the cabinet and do whatever work is assigned to him by Rahul Gandhi," Bajwa said.

After his visit to Pakistan, when Sidhu was asked why he ignored the advice of his captain, he had said: "Which captain you are talking about. Oh.. Captain Amarinder Singh. He is Army Captain. My captain is Rahul Gandhi. He sent me everywhere. Captain`s captain is also Rahul Gandhi," he said.

However, he backtracked on Saturday from his comment which was seen as a dig at the Punjab Chief Minister. "Rahul Gandhi didn't ask me to go, I went on (Pakistan Prime Minister) Imran Khan's personal invite," Sidhu tweeted.

He though said that Amarinder Singh is like his father. "He is the chief minister. He is our boss, but this is not the first time I had gone without informing. The last time when I went there (Pakistan) I had said that I will come again for people," said Sidhu, who returned from Pakistan on Thursday.

The Punjab Chief Minister had declined Pakistan's invitation to attend the ceremony, citing Islamabad's continued support to terrorism in India. He was also reportedly unhappy over Sidhu's visit.

Sidhu was in Pakistan for ground breaking ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor on Wednesday which will allow people from India to have visa-free access to Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara. Stating that the Congress party has 50 to 100 senior leaders, he said they patted him on his back.
