Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 5: Despite repeated complaints against the fraud in voter list of Panchayat Old Satwari where over 150 voters of Jammu Cantonment area also exit in Ward No. 9, no action was taken by the concerned department as well as by the District Administration Jammu which is totally against the transparent democratic process.
Some contestants of Panchayat Old Satwari, which comes under the Block Development Office Satwari old, preferring anonymity, told Early Times that a big fraud was played by some unscrupulous element by adding hundreds of names of residents of cantonment areas into the voter list of Panchayat Old Satwari. Number of representations were submitted to the concerned department but no action was taken ostensibly due to some political pressure.
"If issue was not sorted out immediately, there are chances of clashes on the voting day as voters of cantonment area would cast their votes for panchayat also" they said, hinting at direct political involvement behind the anomaly. Block Development Officer Satwari Sania Haq Khan, when contacted said that she had received some complaints regarding this issue. "We contacted Jammu Cantonment and they had told us that the list is old one and it has to be updated next year. We have also informed about the issue to SDM Jammu South, now he had to take further action in this issue," she said.
While responding to the issue, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Romesh Kumar, told Early Times that he would see what can be done. Similar was the reply of Sub Divisional Magistrate Jammu South Shrikant Suse.
