Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 13: Only three months are left in the current financial year, the Jammu and Kashmir State government has miserably failed to achieve the set target of construction of rural houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G).
As per the documents available with Early Times reveals that after the restructured of erstwhile rural housing scheme - Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) into Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) in the month of April, 2016, the Union government had set the target of construction of One Crore rural houses would be constructed in next three financial years from 2016 to 2019 across the states under the said scheme. "Out of this set target, Union Ministry of Rural Development had set the target of 38,772 rural houses for the state of Jammu and Kashmir in next three financial years but ironically under the dispensation of PDP-BJP government, its Rural Development Department has failed to achieve the target", the document read as.
The callousness on part of J&K government and its department can be gauged from this fact that only three months are left to complete this financial year, the government is succeeded to construct only 7158 rural houses in 22 districts.
An official in rural department informed that however, the question of target had been raised by various legislators during the District Development Board meeting in time to time but owing to lack of coordination among State Ministry of Rural Development and Directorate of Rural Development, the target is not achieved.
"Despite availability of sufficient funds and frequently pushed by Union ministry, the officials have never heed to the matter, resulting, thousands of rural population not getting the benefits of PMAY-G for which purpose, the scheme was formulated", alleged official not to be named.
The official further said that some neighbouring states however at higher pedestal as compare to J&K in implementation of this scheme and it is only the state BJP's unit that being a part of coalition government for more than three in the state has left no stone unturned to fail the scheme.
