50 bovine animals rescued, 5 smugglers arrested

JAMMU, Dec 24: In its ongoing efforts to curb the menace of bovine smuggling, Nagrota Police today foiled major attempt to smuggle bovine animals towards Kashmir valley.
Police spokesman said that on the basis of some inputs, Nagrota police today raised nakas at different places and trucks bearing registration number JK01AH-6272, JK14A-4391 and JK02AJ-8867 coming at different times were signalled to stop at naka point Ban Toll Plaza, Nagrota.
"On checking, 14 bovine animals were rescued from truck number JK01AH-6272 and 02 bovine smugglers namely Nazir Ahmed of Fatehpur, Baramulla and Zahoor Ahmed of Kantabagh Bharamulla were arrested on spot", said spokesman.
Meanwhile, 11 bovine animals were rescued from truck number JK14A-4391 and 02 Bovine smugglers namely Mohd Riaz of Jakheni, Udhampur and Gafoor Ahmed of Kokernag Anantnag were arrested on spot.
Moreover, 13 bovine animals were rescued from truck bearing registration JK02AJ-8867 and 01 bovine smuggler namely Mushtaq Kalu of Khiram, Anantnag was arrested on spot similarly 12 bovine animals were rescued from truck bearing registration number JK03D-7802 at Suketar. Bovine animals were tied very mercilessly in the vehicles by the smugglers.
In this connection, cases under FIR nos. 324/2018, 325/2018 and 326/2018 under section 188 of RPC, 3/5 PCA Act have been registered at Police Station Nagrota and FIR 136/2018 under section 188 of RPC, 3/5 PCA Act at police station Jhajjar Kotli.
Police team led by Inspector Deepak Pathania-SHO Nagrota, Inspector Sanjeev Gupta-SHO Jhajjar Kotli assisted by SI Sadiq Hussin, Ct. Shoket Ali and SPO Akshay Kumar made the arrests/recovery under the supervision of DySP Mohan Lal Sharma-SDPO Nagrota, Dushyant Sharma-SP Rural Jammu and Vivek Gupta I/C DIG JKS Range.
