BARAMULLA, Jan 10: Army on Thursday organized Gulmarg youth festival in which hundreds of youth participated to show their talent .The participants appreciated this move of Army.
To attract tourists to visit the picturesque hill station of Gulmarg, Winter Youth Festival 2019 was conducted jointly by the Army and J&K Tourism department under the aegis of Dagger Division of Srinagar based Chinar Corps on 10 January 2019.
The festival was inaugurated with flagging off of ATV Race by the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command.
GoC was flanked by Lieutenant General A K Bhatt, GOC Chinar Corps, Major General G S Rawat, GOC Dagger Division, Maj Gen Atul Koushik, Comdt HAWS and senior Army, Police and Civil Administration officials.
While addressing the media, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command said that, in 2018 we had Amarnath Yatra, we had Urban Local Bodies elections, Panchayat elections and it is credit to state government, and security forces.
As for as Army is concerned, we are prepared for all the contingencies, we are all aware that there are election in 2019 and there will be activities of the adversaries who will continue to put pressure as for as infiltration and radicalization is concerned in the valley, said GoC northern command.
However he said that the army is absolutely prepared to take on any challenge that could arise anytime in the valley.
Replying to a question on social media, Army General said that, social media is something which has been an issue of concern from past sometime.
"We are putting in some measures in place right from the government of India (GoI), initiatives at New Delhi, similar initiatives at the level of state government and by all the security forces", said Army commander.
He said that as for as army is concerned we are not behind but we are a step ahead and we have been also ensure that out counter narratives also reaches to the concerned people and this is an exercise which is in progress which will continue and our aim will always be to remain ahead as for a social media is concerned.
He further said that, I think it is our adversary who has been using social media to a large extent with a view to radicalize our youth to take them on a wrong path to give them a false promises to get the azadi but our youth has got a knowledge that there is a lot of hope, there is a huge capability, potential. We are all working together to ensure that the energies will be channelized in the right direction for our state and for our country as well.
"Our operation has been unabated weather it is counter infiltration grid, on the line of control wherein we have infiltrations grid and that is the reason why we have been able to trap so many of the infiltrators on or very close to the line of control, the army commander said.
He said that we have been able to inflict more that 250 militants that have been killed in the last one year, over 50 who have been apprehended, and 5 who have surrendered and this is success as for as operation is concerned.
Finally he said that the compliments should go to the people, especially the youth who had participated in the youth festival Gulmarag and made it a grand success this year.
